STOICISM presented in International Mining Congress and Exhibition Antalya, Turkey

    Prof. Hylke Glass (University of Exeter), as partner of the STOICISM consortium, presented the key note speech “Towards sustainable mining practice” at the 24th International Mining Congress and Exhibition (IMCE) that took place on 14 - 17 of April 2015 in Antalya (Turkey).

    His contribution discussed the mining practices in industrial minerals and metal mining and the necessity to support sustainable extraction, processing and management of resources. Multiple management tools and practices that cross-cut the life cycle of a mine were reported such as: European Minerals Day (IMA -Europe led Initiative), social license to operate (SLO), bioleaching, sustainable processing techniques, sustainable waste management.

    The objective of the International Mining Congress and Exhibition is to provide a platform and  opportunity to exchange knowledge, introduce technologies and network between scientists, academics, consultants, and sector representatives from different areas and thus to make a contribution for improving mining sector globally.
